After numerous rumors and leaks, Warner Bros. Games and NetherRelm finally announced Mortal Kombat 1, which brings a “reimagined” Mortal Kombat universe to Xbox Series X|S in September.
Mortal Kombat 1 releases on September 19, 2023, on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and PC, and will introduce a “reborn Mortal Kombat universe that has been created by the Fire God Liu Kang, featuring reimagined versions of iconic characters as they’ve never been seen before.”
Mortal Kombat 1 releases September 19 on Xbox Series X|S
According to Warner Bros. Games, “NetherRealm’s genre-defining story mode” will return with Mortal Kombat 1 and take us on an “immersive cinematic narrative featuring unexpected twists on classic rivalries and original backstories” for legendary fighters, including Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, Shang Tsung, Johnny Cage, and many others. Mortal Kombat 1 also introduces Kameo Fighters, which are partner characters that will assist you during matches, “creating expanded gameplay possibilities for players.”
Unfortunately, Mortal Kombat 1 will release without cross-play or cross-progression, but NetherRealm says it will be coming post-launch.
Mortal Kombat 1 launches for Xbox Series X|S on September 19, 2023, priced at $69.99 for the standard edition. A Mortal Kombat 1 Premium Edition, which includes the Kombat Pack with additional fighters and Kameo fighters available post-launch, five days early access to the game, and 1,250 Dragon Krystals, will also be available for $109.99. Preorders will go live on May 19 with Shang Tsung as a preorder exclusive.
